About The Second Set
Hey, ya all what's crackin'?!! Welcome to "The Second Set," the eleventh album by Healey St, where we’re picking up the mic right where the ninth dropped it (probably on my foot)! This time, we’ve got nine groovy covers from the seventies—yes, the decade of bell bottoms and questionable hairstyles—dedicated to the legendary live band Monday England that I used to rock out with. And don’t worry, we’re not done yet! Two more albums are on the way, taking us on a wild ride through the sixties and fifties. So, grab your AM radio, crank it up, and let’s relive those glorious days of transistor radios and your mom yelling, “ turn that racket down!”
The beautiful album cover: The art for this album was created by the amazing Irina Fischer. Her artwork is absolutely stunning and adds so much life to the album. The album/set begins with:
Danny's Song- From 1971 a Loggins & Messina song, this song for me was always about how we change when we bring another human life into this world. How different it makes us. I changed it a little, ok a lot.
Take it Easy-I tried to keep this as close to the Eagles original as much as I could except for of course the guitar solo. Always need that to be just a little different. The ending I did some three part harmony that was fun.
Louie, Louie-Speaking of fun, I know this song is from the sixties but I couldn't resist. Animal house came out in '78, so I guess I can get away with it. The lyrics are a little different from the original-the history behind the lyrics is kinda nuts. If you're not aware- Google FBI and Louie, Louie lyrics.
In June-This song poured out of me, it being the only original on the album. Irina asked me to do a Flamenco song for an instagram post and initially I had planned to do something more traditional but then it just came out of me.
Turn the Page- I definitely identified with this song when I was playing in a band. I thought Seger spoke for every musician and oddball out there on the road.
Oh Well- Love the riff, love Peter Greene. What happened to this talented musician was tragic.
Fire and Rain-Best song James Taylor ever wrote, people still can't figure it out after 5 decades.
Blue Morning Blue Day- I decided to do a slightly different arrangement, it sounds more like an eighties power ballad then something from the seventies. I stayed close to the original in the first guitar solo but then I let it go at the end. The song took where it wanted to go.
I Can See Clearly Now-I wanted to end the album with a positive vibe, this Johnny Nash song is as positive as you can get.
